Synopsis
The uplifting and emotional story of Israeli Air Force Colonel Ilan Ramon, Israel's first astronaut, and the journey of a tiny Torah into space. Colonel Ramon and six other astronauts perished in February, 2003, when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon reentry. Ramon, the son of an Auschwitz survivor, viewed himself as a representative of the Jewish people and a keeper of Holocaust memory, so among the objects that he took into space was a miniature Torah that survived Bergen-Belsen. The film skillfully weaves Colonel Ramon's personal story and his bonds with fellow astronauts with the journey of this tiny symbol of survival from pre-war Germany through the cruel depths of the Holocaust to the heights of international space exploration. FOLLOWING THE FILM A discussion of the film, moderated by Rabbi Dana Magat of Temple Emanu-El, will follow the film. Parents are also invited as long as there are seats available once the teens have been seated. Film Details
